People
People are a part of nature. Ecosystems across North America have been stewarded by indigenous people for millennia. Without their management, those ecosystems would not exist. Today, it is still up to people to take an active role in caring for nature.
As a visual storyteller, I want people to understand that not only do we depend on nature, but that nature also depends on us. My work shows why active stewardship of North America's western forests and grasslands is essential for their existence. Both systems need fire, and grasslands also need grazing, but society today has largely forgotten their places on the landscape. With photography, I am trying to remind people of them.
Below is a sample of the people I have photographed who work to study, protect, and manage lands, waters, and wildlife.
